Työpäiväni toimistossa
My workday in the office
Olen työskennellyt samassa firmassa viisi vuotta. Yritys on keskikokoinen ohjelmistotalo Helsingin keskustassa. Sain tämän työn vuonna 2021, kun muutin Suomeen. Aluksi pelkäsin paljon, mutta kollegat olivat heti ystävällisiä.
Aamulla herään seitsemältä. Juon kahvin ja katson sähköposteja puhelimesta jo sängyssä. Joskus tulee yöllä viestejä Aasian toimistosta. Ne pitää lukea heti aamulla.
Lähden kotoa puoli yhdeksän. Matkustan metrolla. Matka kestää kaksikymmentä minuuttia. Asema on viiden minuutin kävelyn päässä toimistosta.
Toimistossa on noin sata työntekijää. Kaikki työskentelevät yhdessä avokonttorissa. Aluksi en pitänyt avoimesta tilasta, koska siellä oli liian äänekästä. Nyt olen tottunut siihen. Kuulokkeet auttavat keskittymistä.
Päiväni alkaa tiimipalaverilla. Kokoonnumme kello yhdeksän. Käymme läpi eilisen tehtävät ja päivän suunnitelmat. Palaveri kestää viisitoista minuuttia. Sen jälkeen jokainen palaa työhönsä.
Minun työni on tarkistaa koodia ja kirjoittaa raportteja. Istun tietokoneen ääressä monta tuntia. Yritän pitää tauon joka tunti. Nousen seisomaan, venyttelen ja juon vettä. Tämä auttaa keskittymistä.
Lounasaika on kello kahdestatoista yhteen. Toimistossa on ruokala. Lounas maksaa työntekijälle vain neljä euroa. Yleensä syön keittoa ja salaattia. Joskus kollegat menevät yhdessä lähiravintolaan.
Iltapäivällä on usein kokouksia asiakkaiden kanssa. Pidän kokouksia englanniksi tai suomeksi. Suomenkieliset kokoukset ovat vaikeampia. Mutta minä yritän, ja kollegat auttavat.
Päivä loppuu kello viisi. Joskus jään pidempään, jos on kiireinen projekti. Kotiin pääsen yleensä puoli kuusi. Vaimo on jo tehnyt ruokaa. Syömme yhdessä ja keskustelemme päivästä.
Olen ollut viime kuukaudet melko väsynyt. Projektit ovat olleet vaativia. Mutta esimies on luvannut, että ensi kuussa saamme vähän rauhallisempaa aikaa. Toivottavasti hän pitää sanansa.
Suomalainen työkulttuuri on minulle hyvä. Ihmiset kunnioittavat työaikaa. Kukaan ei lähetä viestejä kello kuuden jälkeen. Lomat ovat pitkät. Olen tyytyväinen.
English translation
I've been working at the same company for five years. The firm is a medium-sized software company in the centre of Helsinki. I got this job in 2021 when I moved to Finland. At first I was very afraid, but the colleagues were friendly right away.
In the morning I wake up at seven. I drink coffee and check my email on the phone already in bed. Sometimes overnight messages come from the Asian office. They need to be read first thing in the morning.
I leave home at half past eight. I travel by metro. The trip takes twenty minutes. The station is a five-minute walk from the office.
There are about a hundred employees in the office. Everyone works together in an open-plan office. At first I didn't like the open space because it was too noisy. Now I've got used to it. Headphones help with concentration.
My day starts with a team meeting. We gather at nine. We go through yesterday's tasks and the day's plans. The meeting lasts fifteen minutes. After that everyone returns to their work.
My job is to review code and write reports. I sit at the computer for many hours. I try to take a break every hour. I stand up, stretch and drink water. This helps with concentration.
Lunch time is from twelve to one. The office has a canteen. Lunch costs the employee only four euros. Usually I eat soup and salad. Sometimes the colleagues go together to a nearby restaurant.
In the afternoon there are often meetings with clients. I hold meetings in English or Finnish. Finnish-language meetings are harder. But I try, and the colleagues help.
The day ends at five. Sometimes I stay longer if there's an urgent project. I usually get home at half past five. My wife has already cooked. We eat together and discuss the day.
I have been quite tired the last months. The projects have been demanding. But my supervisor has promised that next month we will get a calmer period. I hope he keeps his word.
Finnish work culture suits me well. People respect working hours. Nobody sends messages after six o'clock. Holidays are long. I'm satisfied.
