Weekend at the cottage
Suomessa monella perheellä on mökki. Mökki on usein järven rannalla tai metsässä. Mökki on tärkeä paikka suomalaisille.
Meidän mökki on kaksi tuntia Helsingistä. Mökki on pieni ja vanha. Siinä on kaksi huonetta ja sauna. Mökillä ei ole sähköä eikä juoksevaa vettä. Vesi tulee järvestä. Valoa antaa kynttilä ja öljylamppu.
Menemme mökille joka kesäviikonloppuna. Pakkaamme auton täyteen ruokaa ja vaatteita. Lapset ovat innoissaan. Matka on pitkä, mutta auto kulkee hyvin.
Mökillä on rauhallista. Ei ole liikennettä, ei ihmisiä. Vain luonto. Linnut laulavat. Tuuli liikuttaa puita. Kuulen vain järven aaltoja.
Lapset uivat järvessä. Vesi on viileää mutta puhdasta. Joskus kalastan. Saan ahvenia ja haukia.
Illalla teemme makkaraa tulella. Sitten menemme saunaan. Sauna on kuuma. Lämpötila on noin kahdeksankymmentä astetta. Sauna on suomalaisten lempipaikka.
Mökillä elämä on yksinkertaista mutta onnellista. Lähden mökille väsyneenä ja palaan kotiin onnellisena.
English translation
In Finland many families have a cottage. The cottage is often by a lake or in the forest. The cottage is an important place for Finns.
Our cottage is two hours from Helsinki. The cottage is small and old. It has two rooms and a sauna. The cottage has no electricity or running water. The water comes from the lake. Light is given by a candle and an oil lamp.
We go to the cottage every summer weekend. We pack the car full of food and clothes. The children are excited. The trip is long, but the car runs well.
At the cottage it's peaceful. There is no traffic, no people. Only nature. The birds sing. The wind moves the trees. I hear only the waves of the lake.
The children swim in the lake. The water is cool but clean. Sometimes I fish. I catch perch and pike.
In the evening we cook sausages over the fire. Then we go to the sauna. The sauna is hot. The temperature is about eighty degrees. The sauna is the Finns' favorite place.
At the cottage life is simple but happy. I leave for the cottage tired and return home happy.
